A high-powered delegation from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the World Free & Special Economic Zones Federation, along with officials from the Department of Trade and Industry, were hosted by Dube TradePort Special Economic Zone COO, Mr. Kaya Ngqaka. The delegation was on a visit to inspect the zone, on the backdrop of the Special Economic Zone Conference taking place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.
Officials from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, were impressed with the extent of the development of the Dube TradePort precinct, especially that work was already underway with the second phase of all its development zones and that plans to develop the third phase of its light industrial precinct were at hand.
The delegation also got a chance to witness the inner workings of the Samsung television and monitor production facility within the first phase of the Dube TradeZone, which produces the companies flagship televisions for the entire African continent. During the tour of the facility, the Samsung team also highlighted the work they have embarked on capacitating staff and ensuring skills transfer, throughout their production.
The tour also gave the Dube Cargo Terminal a chance to demonstrate the efficiency and security they have been able to achieve through having an integrated automated cargo handling systems, and a dedicated staff compliment that continually drives the business, ensuring connectivity and market access for the goods that are produced within the zone.
