Counting Down the Months to Touchdown
The beginning of the New Year has seen construction progress at Dube TradePort really begin to gather momentum.
Progress on site includes the following:
Primary Runway
The second layer of asphalt on the runway is currently being laid, while a trial of the SMA surface course has also been undertaken.
Taxiways
Layerworks for the entire airport’s taxiways are presently at an advanced stage.
Passenger Terminal
The brickwork in the basement and both the arrivals and departures levels is now nearing completion.
The steel team is currently working on the fourth of the six main roof trusses, while roof sheeting has also commenced. Steelwork for the northern airside corridor is progressing well and four air-bridges, initiated from the southern end, have been installed.
Cargo Terminal
Progress with the Cargo Terminal continues apace with building finishes, tiling, plumbing, air-conditioning and lift installation all in progress.
Work on the important cargo racking system is at an advanced stage of development, while work has also commenced on the external loading and parking areas.
Site Roads
Work on the development of the N2 interchange remains on schedule. The construction of the approach roads and piers are progressing well, while work on the N2 access, Agrizone access and other roads within Dube TradePort is ongoing.
Control Tower
Work on the cab roof element of the Control Tower is presently being completed.
Support Zone
Road box excavation is now nearing completion ahead of the commencement of layerworks. Meanwhile, storm-water reticulation work is progressing on schedule.
Tradezone
Bulk Earthworks: The final cut is nearing completion.
Storm-Water Reticulation: Installation work is currently in progress.
Sewer Reticulation: Work on sewer reticulation requirements has commenced.
Top-soil and Grassing: The implementation of top-soil and grassing has commenced on site.
Other Infrastructure
Fire and Rescue Building: Building finishes, glazing, lifts, plumbing and the like are all nearing completion.
Bird Radar: Bird radar has been installed on site for the purposes of a trial operation and is currently collecting valuable data.
Bulk Infrastructure
Electrical cabling: The installation of 11kV cables is progressing well.
Airside Sub-Station Buildings: Sub-station brickwork is in the process of being completed.
Fire Reservoir: The side walls of the reservoir are progressing well.
Potable Water Reservoir: Construction of the Potable Water Reservoir is substantially complete.
Fuel Farm: Work on the Fuel Farm’s support buildings has commenced.
