Dube TradePort Construction Making Good Progress

The development of our new world-class international airport and trade port facility is rapidly taking shape as the construction team’s efforts really begin gathering momentum.

Our progress report includes:

Runway:

Runway layerworks continue, while a final crusher run layer, ahead of the laying of asphalt, is currently being positioned at the southern end.

In addition, a trial asphalt primer has been laid. The asphalt trial is due next month.

Taxiways:

Layerworks on the taxiways, including the important parallel taxiway are at an advanced stage of development.

Aprons:

Work on the alpha and secondary aprons continues apace, with fuel hydrants being installed, pits being prepared and stormwater piping being laid to service the alpha apron.

Layerworks are being completed on the other aprons.

Main Terminal:

The first delivery of main roof trusses has arrived on site and temporary trestles for truss erection are currently being built.

Meanwhile work continues steadily as regards the departures slab and the airside corridor.

Multi-Storey Car Park:

The second floor slab is being completed and roof steel erection has commenced.

Cargo Terminal:

The installation of roof sheeting is progressing well, while other building finishes, such as plastering, electrical and air-conditioning installations are also being completed.
In addition, scissor-lift bases and floor slab construction is underway.

Control Tower:

With the main shaft already completed, attention is now keenly focused on assembling the steel cab ahead of its positioning at the top of the tower.

N2 Interchange:

Earthwork is in progress as regards the western ramps and bridge approach. Piling for the bridge is continuing.

Support Zone:

Pleasingly, the platform has been completed, together with the main access road and bulk earthworks.

Work on the services infrastructure is set to commence shortly.

Trade Zone:

Levelling of the area is ongoing, while the fill of the valley area is in progress, inclusive of the provision of land drains and rock-fill. Stormwater reticulation on the site has also commenced.

Other Infrastructure:

  • The Agrizone access road is currently under construction and work on the main access road close to the terminal intersection has recommenced. Work has also started on an important link road;
  • Surface-level car parks are being developed;
  • The airside perimeter road is under construction;
  • The fire and rescue building and other maintenance buildings are currently being built;
  • Sewer reticulation is progressing well;
  • The fuel farm is being developed, with the commencement of tank base construction;
  • The fire water reservoir is nearing completion; and
  • Fencing for the reservoir precinct is being installed.
