Dube TradePort on track for completion in March 2010
The construction of Dube TradePort is forging ahead, with significant progress having been registered last month (May 2008). Indeed, it is pleasing to be able to report that all areas of current work in progress remain on schedule.
Construction progress may best be summarised as follows:
Passenger Terminal Building:
The basement structure has been completed and work on the ground floor arrivals level is currently underway. The columns for the first floor slab are being put in place, while the slab for the air-side corridor has already been laid.
Cargo Terminal:
The main concrete structure, designed for office and related purposes, has been completed, although structural steelworks are still in progress.
Trade Zone:
The Trade Zone platform cut-to-fill programme is well on schedule.
Support Zone (One):
The bulk earthworks for the Support Zone (One) are on schedule for completion by the end of this month (June 2008).
Main Runway:
The bulk earthworks have been completed and the ducting for the ground lighting system is now being laid. All the taxiways have been cleared and levelled ahead of bulk earthworks, which are set to begin by the middle of this month (June2008).
Air Traffic Control Tower:
Construction of the 55m high air traffic control tower has been completed and the fittings for the structure are now being installed. All the highly sophisticated air traffic navigation and guidance systems are to be imported and will be installed in 2009.
Multi-Storey Car Park:
The ground floor of the multi-storey car park structure has been finished and work has commenced on the floors above.
Water Reservoir:
The on-site water reservoir is nearing completion and has a carrying capacity of three million litres. The reservoir will provide for a three-day independent supply to the airport and, importantly, will ensure an instantly accessible water supply in case of any on-site fire emergency.
N2 Interchange and Access Roads:
The enabling works for the N2 Interchange have begun. Current work includes all preliminary drillings into the sub-soil, the set-up of necessary equipment and all the final measurements and surveys.
The bulk earthworks for the access roads are on schedule, inclusive of necessary strengthening in certain areas.
