Dube TradePort is Progressing Rapidly

Rapid construction progress is the order of the day at the Dube TradePort development site north of Durban.
Progress to date is as follows:
Primary Runway
Asphalt work is now substantially complete, while work on the installation of all the necessary airfield lighting is progressing well.
Taxiways and Aprons
The laying of asphalt on the taxiways and aprons if progressing well. In addition, work on the two rapid-exit taxiways has been completed.
Taxiway strips are currently being levelled and top-soiled.
Passenger Terminal
The Passenger Terminal roof has been fully completed, while the external cladding is nearing completion. The installation of ceilings and tiling is progressing on schedule.
Initial testing of the sophisticated baggage handling system has commenced and the work on the check-in counters has also been undertaken.
Electricity supply to the terminal has been completed.
Cargo Terminal
Building work on the Cargo Terminal is now substantially complete. In addition, two ETVs have been installed.
Site Roads
The incremental launching of the high-level N2 bridge has commenced. Staging for the bridge spans across the N2 has also been undertaken, while asphalt for the N2 access road is being laid.
The construction of shade structures destined for the open parking area is underway.
Control Tower
The completed Control Tower has now been handed over to ATNS for the completion of their installation work.
Support Zone
All road work and infrastructure development is progressing on schedule.
Trade Zone
The installation of kerbing for the Trade Zone’s internal road network is progressing well.
Sewer and storm-water pipe installation has been completed.
Bulk Infrastructure
The secondary airport electricity supply has been energised and the La Mercy major sub-station has been completed, but has not yet gone live.
Multi-storey Parkade
Construction of the Parkade is nearing completion. The entrance structure is at the finishing stage.
Visitor Centre
The erection of the Visitors Centre is close to completion and is to be opened during September this year.
Fire and Rescue Building
The building is presently being checked for final completion by the architects, while work on the external areas of the Fire and Rescue Building has begun.
ATNS Radar Tower
Work on the foundation of the ATNS Radar Tower has commenced.
