It’s All Coming Together At Dube TradePort

Intensive construction work at Dube TradePort, north of Durban, is rapidly bringing the project together ahead of its launch next year.

An update on progress shows:

Primary Runway

The laying down of the final layer of asphalt on the primary runway is progressing well and work has been initiated on the installation of airfield lighting.

Taxiways and Aprons

The second asphalt layer on the airport’s main taxiway is almost complete. The laying of asphalt on the international passenger apron is progressing steadily and is already 50% complete, while the erection of floodlighting on another apron has been finished. 

Passenger Terminal

The roof of the passenger terminal has been completed. In addition, the main structure of the mezzanine baggage handling system has been finished and the air-bridges have been fully installed.

Cargo Terminal

The ULD racking has been installed, the ETVs have arrived and have been assembled in the building, while the cold-room insulation cladding has been completed.

Site Roads

The kerbing and channelling work on the important N2 access road is progressing well.

The laying of asphalt on the passenger terminal roads is advancing on schedule.

Control Tower

ATNS has commenced its installation work on the completed control tower.

Support Zone

The Cyberport building has been almost completed, while road-works and services installation is ongoing.

Trade Zone

Bulk earthworks – The final cut is close to completion;
Sewer and storm-water reticulation – Work on the sewer and storm-water reticulation systems is progressing well;
Topsoil and grassing – Topsoil and grassing within the Trade Zone area is well advanced.

Other Infrastructure

Fire & Rescue Building
The fire and rescue building is being checked by the architects for final completion.

In the meantime, work on the external areas has begun.

 Bulk Infrastructure

The provision of bulk electricity supply, inclusive of the construction of pylons and overhead lines, is almost complete.

The construction of a temporary treatment works has commenced.

Multi-storey Parkade

Work on the lobby area and the installation of cladding is almost complete.

 Visitor Centre

The construction of the Visitor Centre is almost finished.
