Construction Intensifies on Dube TradePort Site
Dube TradePort, inclusive of the new international airport, is now really taking shape and the construction pace picks up ahead of the facility’s opening next year.
Progress to date includes:
Primary Runway
Work on the primary runway’s final asphalt layer has been undertaken.
Taxiways
The second asphalt layer on the main taxiway is presently nearing completion, while layerworks for the other taxiways is ongoing. The rapid exit taxiways are almost ready for the laying of asphalt.
In addition, work on erecting apron floodlighting has commenced.
Passenger Terminal
The entire passenger terminal’s main roof steel work has been completed, while roof-sheeting is 75% complete.
The mezzanine baggage handling system’s main structure has been completed. Roof-sheeting on the airside corridor is approximately 60% complete, while the glazing and cladding of the main building is progressing well.
Cargo Terminal
The assembly of the ULD roller system has been fully completed. Much of the necessary tiling, partitioning and ceiling installation work in the office areas is at a very advanced stage.
Preparatory work for the imminent connection of electricity to enable commissioning is progressing on schedule.
Site Roads
Work with regard to the installation of kerbing and channelling along the N2 access road is continuing apace, whilst the excavation of the SP1 access road is also underway.
Final layerworks for both the Trade Zone and Agrizone access roads are progressing well.
Control Tower
The control tower has been handed over to ATNS for the commencement of their installations.
Support Zone
The development of Support Zone road works is continuing, while stormwater reticulation has been completed. The installation of sewer pipe work is underway.
Cyberport building is progressing well, with brickwork nearing completion.
Trade Zone
Bulk earthworks – The final cut is now almost complete;
Sewer and stormwater reticulation – Work on both the sewer and stormwater reticulation systems is continuing on schedule;
Topsoil and grassing – Topsoil and grassing within the Trade Zone area is advancing extremely well.
Other Infrastructure
Fire & Rescue Building
The fire and rescue building is now nearing completion and attention has been placed on constructing the necessary structure for the provision of a foam storage tank. In addition, earthworks for a fire training facility have commenced.
Bulk Infrastructure
The installation of a new water main is nearing completion, while work on the fuel pipelines is progressing well. Most of the MV electrical cabling work has now been completed.
Multi-storey Parkade
The painting of columns for bay numbers, together with the installation of edge railings has been completed. The lifts are being installed and the ACSA office roof is now complete.
Visitor Centre
The erection of the Visitor Centre is nearing completion.
