Full Steam Ahead On Dube TradePort Construction
There is no let-up in construction activities on the Dube TradePort construction site as everyone pulls together to complete this flagship project on time.
Progress to date includes:
Primary Runway
Asphalt laying work on the primary runway continues, but has suffered a delay as a result of quality issues.
Taxiways
The first asphalt layer on the important parallel taxiway has been completed, while work on the second layer has already commenced
Passenger Terminal
The six main steel trusses have been completed, while the fifth and final connecting steel bay is 50% complete. Roof sheeting is some 60% complete and airside corridor roof sheeting is 50% complete.
The mezzanine baggage handling system’s main structure has been completed. Glazing of the air bridges is regarded as being 60% completed and glazing and cladding of the main building has commenced. In the meantime, the cooling units for the air conditioning system have been successfully positioned and connection work is now being carried out.
Cargo Terminal
The assembly of the ULD roller system is finished and work on the scissor lifts has commenced. Installation of refrigeration panels for the cool area has commenced.
Site Roads
Kerbing and channelling along the N2 access road is now 40% complete, while the construction of internal roads around the airport terminal is well advanced.
Kerbing is already in place as regards the public car park and attendant entrance roads, while excavation for the SP1 access road has commenced.
Control Tower
The Control Tower roof is complete and work on ceilings has now been undertaken. The installation of internal fittings is progressing well and work on the ATNS and SAWS building is ongoing. ATNS is now mobilising for the installation of equipment.
Support Zone
Support Zone road works are progressing well, while storm water reticulation systems have been completed. The installation of sewer pipe work has commenced, as has the construction of the Cyberport building.
Trade Zone
Bulk earthworks – The final cut is nearing completion;
Storm water reticulation – The storm water reticulation system is progressing well;
Sewer reticulation – Work on the important sewer reticulation system is underway;
Topsoil and grassing – Topsoil and grassing within the Trade Zone area has commenced.
Other Infrastructure
Fire & Rescue Building
Glazing within the Fire & Rescue building has been completed, while other building finishes, the lifts, plumbing and the like are all nearing completion.
Work on the fire tender bay is ongoing.
Bulk Infrastructure
The installation of both the new water main and fuel pipelines are progressing well. In addition, most of the MV electrical cables have already been installed.
Multi-storey Parkade
The painting of columns for bay numbers has commenced, while edge railing installation has been completed. The lifts are currently being installed and the ACSA office roof has been completed.
Visitor Centre
The erection of the Visitor Centre has been undertaken.
