Expected Impact
A comprehensive socio-economic impact assessment of the Dube TradePort was completed in December 2004.
Based on the scope of each of the Dube TradePort elements (broadly defined by CAPEX and OPEX), direct and indirect employment, contribution to GDP, increased fixed investment and government revenue from taxes were calculated both nationally and for the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
The total socio-economic impact of the Dube TradePort, including associated benefits associated with unlocking potential within the DIA site, has been calculated as follows:

The ‘cost per job’, defined as ‘the investment by government over the period of 2005 to 2025, relative to the number of jobs created,’ ranges from R5 600 to R8 700. Furthermore, the Dube TradePort will create significant benefits both in terms of Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) and competitiveness. |
